NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS

DRAFT FIVE YEAR PARKS & RECREATION PLAN

TO ALL INTERESTED AGENCIES, GROUPS AND PERSONS:

On June 15, 2010 the City of Three Rivers reviewed the goals and objectives of the Draft Five Year Parks and Recreation Plan. During the televised meeting it was indicated that the plan could be reviewed at the following locations:

Comments on the plan may be directed in writing or via phone to the City Clerk, Lindsay Howes, at the above address or 269-273-1075 ext105.

Two Public Hearings will be held to listen to public input. The hearings will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 6:00 pm and Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 6:00 pm. Both hearings will be held at City Hall at the above address. On July 20th City staff will be available for discussion at 5:00 pm at City Hall.

The plan includes an inventory of City-owned parks, park descriptions, previously obtained grant funding and goals for the parks. It also incorporates the recently completed Trails Master Plan. The parks plan is a means to prepare for future funding opportunities with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment or other sources, provide topics of discussion during the budget process, and guide work that can be completed by City staff.

Scidmore Park Petting Zoo

Scidmore Park is located at the corner of West Michigan Avenue and Spring Street, across from City Hall.

Petting Zoo Hours are:

Mothers Day to Fathers Day
Saturday Only – Noon to 5:00 p.m.

Fathers Day to Labor Day
Thursday through Sunday – Noon to 5:00 p.m.

Labor Day to Halloween
Saturday Only – Noon to 5:00 p.m.

2010 Summer Programs are FREE educational programs that will be held in the pavillion just outside of the zoo gates every Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Farmer’s Market

The Farmer’s Market is now open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through October in Scidmore Park. Vendors will be selling fresh produce and homemade items.

Art in the Park will be held the second Sunday of the month held by the Three Rivers Artist Guild:

Planning a Recreational Trail Connector

The St. Joseph County Land Use Council is planning a 1.5 mile, non-motorized trail connecting the City of Three Rivers with St. Joseph County’s Meyer Broadway Park in Fabius Township. Fabius Township and the City have shown support for the project. Waste Management has offered support with financial resources to cover the 20 percent required cost share. For more information, the grant application is available.

Playground Installation Date

While we are all dreaming of a white Christmas, we are hoping that the ground does not freeze until mid-January. Scidmore Park playground installation is planned for the week of January 4.
